Douglas and his first wife, [[Diana Douglas|Diana Dill]], married on November 2, 1943. They had two sons, actor [[Michael Douglas]] and producer [[Joel Douglas]], before divorcing in 1951.

According to his autobiography ''[[The Ragman's Son]],'' he and Italian actress [[Pier Angeli]] were engaged in the early 1950s after meeting on the set of the film ''The Story of Three Loves'' (1953), but they never made it down the aisle.<ref>{{cite book|last=Douglas|first=Kirk |title=[[The Ragman's Son|The Ragman's Son: An Autobiography]]|publisher=G.K.
