According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of Template:Convert, all of it land.

History

The federal government contracted David Bohannon, one of the nation's lead mass production developers, to develop Rollingwood. Federal officials approved bank loans to finance construction, requiring that the homes not be sold to African-Americans.<ref name=gary>Template:Cite book</ref>

In 1952, Wilbur Gary, an African-American navy war veteran, former shipyard worker, and building contractor, purchased a home in Rollingwood from fellow navy war veteran Lieutenant Commander Sidney Hogan. Gary's purchase provoked anger among residents of the formerly all-white town. Soon after the Garys arrived, a mob of 300 white residents gathered in front of Gary's house. The mob shouted racial epithets, hurled a brick through the family's window, and burned a cross on their front lawn.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref><ref>The Gary Family of Richmond Radio Free Richmond. Demographics

The 2020 United States census reported that Rollingwood had a population of 3,015. The population density was Template:Convert. The racial makeup of Rollingwood was 13.6% White, 3.6% African American, 2.5% Native American, 17.2% Asian, 1.2% Pacific Islander, 48.3% from other races, and 13.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 67.6% of the population.

The census reported that 99.7% of the population lived in households and 0.3% were institutionalized.

There were 727 households, out of which 47.5% included children under the age of 18, 57.1% were married-couple households, 5.4% were cohabiting couple households, 23.4% had a female householder with no partner present, and 14.2% had a male householder with no partner present. 6.7% of households were one person, and 3.0% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 4.13. There were 638 families (87.8% of all households).

The age distribution was 23.5% under the age of 18, 11.8% aged 18 to 24, 28.8% aged 25 to 44, 25.5% aged 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65Template:Nbspyears of age or older. The median age was 34.4Template:Nbspyears. For every 100 females, there were 100.9 males.

There were 745 housing units at an average density of Template:Convert, of which 727 (97.6%) were occupied. Of these, 60.9% were owner-occupied, and 39.1% were occupied by renters.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref><ref>Template:Cite web</ref>
