History

The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Meigs as a town in 1889.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref> The city is named after William Allen Meigs (1862–1913), a successful turpentine dealer for the town.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref>

Geography

Meigs is located in northwestern Thomas County at Template:Coord (31.072664, -84.090988).<ref name="GR1">Template:Cite web</ref> A small portion of Mitchell County within Template:Convert of the center of town is also within the city limits.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of Template:Convert, of which Template:Convert are land and Template:Convert, or 2.75%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/>

U.S. Route 19 passes just east of the city limits, leading southeast Template:Convert to Thomasville, the Thomas county seat, and northwest Template:Convert to Pelham. Georgia State Route 111 passes through the center of Meigs on Marshall Street and Depot Street; it leads northeast Template:Convert to Moultrie and southwest Template:Convert to Cairo.
