Ferdinand

From Niidae Wiki

Template:About Template:Infobox given name Ferdinand is a Germanic name composed of the elements Template:Lang "journey, travel", Proto-Germanic Template:Lang, abstract noun from root Template:Lang "to fare, travel" (PIE Template:Lang, "to lead, pass over"), and Template:Lang "courage" or Template:Lang "ready, prepared" related to Old High German Template:Lang "to risk, venture."

The name was adopted in Romance languages from its use in the Visigothic Kingdom. It is reconstructed as either Gothic Template:Lang or Template:Lang. It became popular in German-speaking Europe only from the 16th century, with Habsburg rule over Spain. Variants of the name include Template:Lang, Template:Lang, Template:Lang, and Template:Lang in Spanish, Template:Lang in Catalan, and Template:Lang and Template:Lang in Portuguese. The French forms are Template:Lang, Fernand, and Template:Lang, and it is Ferdinando and Fernando in Italian. In Hungarian both Template:Lang and Template:Lang are used equally. The Dutch forms are Template:Lang and Ferry.

There are numerous short forms in many languages, such as the Finnish Template:Lang.

There is a feminine Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian form, Template:Lang. Template:TOC right
