Geography

Carrollton is located in south-central Greene County at Template:Coord (39.296662, -90.408059).<ref name="GR1">Template:Cite web</ref> U.S. Route 67 passes through the city as 5th Street, leading north Template:Convert to Jacksonville and south Template:Convert to Alton on the Mississippi River. Illinois Route 108 (Main Street) crosses US 67 in the center of town, leading east Template:Convert to Carlinville and west Template:Convert to Kampsville on the Illinois River.

According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Carrollton has a total area of Template:Convert, of which Template:Convert (or 99.89%) is land and Template:Convert (or 0.11%) is water.<ref name="gaz2021">Template:Cite web</ref>

It is located Template:Convert southwest of Springfield, the state capital, and is Template:Convert north of St. Louis, Missouri. Greene County borders the Metro East area.

Carrollton is home to three schools: Carrollton High School (Carrollton, Illinois), Carrollton Grade School, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic School.

There were 1,214 housing units at an average density of Template:Convert. The racial makeup of the city was 95.21% White, 0.44% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 3.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.49% of the population.

There were 1,005 households, out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.05% were married couples living together, 9.75% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.24% were non-families. 28.86% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.02% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 2.55.

The city's age distribution consisted of 21.1% under the age of 18, 12.0% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39.1 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $60,280, and the median income for a family was $66,813. Males had a median income of $42,664 versus $18,596 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,908. About 7.2% of families and 8.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.2% of those under age 18 and 4.0% of those age 65 or over.
