Reflection and Evaluation

Hi Cormaggio,

I've just finished a course on Evaluation, and I think that your work on reflection is much more clear to me now as a component of Evaluation. I'm going to start to clean up the Adult Education resources a bit, but I was wondering if you had and Topics on Reflection or writings on it outside of Wikiversity. Frustration with Wikiversity

Dear Sir: I chose you at random not knowing how to contact any body at Wikiversity. My apologies for this.

I think the concept of Wikiversity is great. It seems to me to be designed predominantly for "young folks" intimately familiar with computers. I tried the last about 2 weeks to begin developing a curriculum that I felt might be of interest to a community - some community. however despite spending a considerable time trying to penetrate the mysteries of the WV setup -language, etc i feel that i have to spend more time in putting the "" stuff" on then creating it. I do believe that better - more concise tutorials and editor guidelines might be very welcome. ( I do not see how I casual reader/ visitor is encouraged to participate in a certain topic) I taught myself Html, and I became quite proficient in using the "TiddlyWiki markup language. I each case the learning curve seemed to have been substantially shorter than here. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Again I think what you ( as a group/ organization) are doing is laudable and I hope that I might be able to contribute. If not we will have to chaulk it up to the onset of Alzheimer's disease . Project incubator

No I have not been coordinating with anyone else, that is one reason why nothing much has happened with the project. I know that the project will create a lot of structure, but when I thought of structuring it - I assumed an initial categorization of 1000+ questions/discussions.

This'll help, because apart from the direct goal of helping out people, this forum will help create a lot of content for wikibooks and wikiversity. Ideas come from discussions. I don't think any one will have a lot of incentives working all by himself. But when the same person sees a big community, it's characteristics and everything - he knows what exactly will help. He knows that his work is needed by someone at the very moment.

It's different from Help desk not in the content/concept. It is different in terms of the expected volumes. Expected depends on how well we market the project. You can checkout information regarding IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT and AFMC. These are examinations that are taken by a huge number of students in India. The education is all haywired, particularly because students do not do muh productive work in school and instead rely on coaching centers/Rot schools which dish uninteresting education.

There's a lot that can be done with this. I am sure I can attract a lot of people from the demographic that I just mentioned. If they come and see wikiversity's involvement in teaching them (ofcourse, those exams are based purely on highschool syllabus), they'd be excited about it all - mainly because wikiversity and wikipedia are sister projects.

Right now, I want some major help in setting up the forum's navigation and text. Can you suggest me someone who would be willing to help me out with this? Thanks. --Dharav ^talk 05:59, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

You can read the clarifications on the separate section below. I hapenned to read a message on some talk page that said something about being frustrated on wikiversity. yes Sir, even I am. And all that is keeping me here is the vision that given a few months time, this discussion forum will be active and helping out a lot of people.

If you realize, I am just asking for someone to come and help me out with completing the forum's pages in full. Can anyone HELP me? That's all I'm asking for! Clarifications regarding HHF

I'd still worry about creating all this structure...

The structure is already created! Only that it can not be launched with a good reception right now.

The two projects are similar only in their core offerings - discussions. But honestly, com out of the wiki mindset for a second and realize, what would dumb users prefer? Blocks of text or formatted and categorized questions?

Wikihelpdesk is functional and so is this forum. What is the difference? How many queries on helpdesk are answered? Why would someone come to the help desk when he already has other services like Yahoo!!! Answers'?

Let us for now assume that help desk is a bad idea for specialized queries and discussions - and it's not a bad one given that no one has asked for his/her doubts through out a course over there. If it were helpful, the user would keep coming back to it and increase the content on the helpdesk. Is that the case?

Given the assumption, I do not perceive HHF as a duplication, but an improvization! Is the improvization major? Well, until and unless we set the project out in the open, we'll never know! The structure is there so that people keep coming back to the forum to check out things. Where will I attract the people from? Let's leave that for later.

That apart, I plan to solve a large number of questions on the forum and already have volunteers for that. These questions will serve the purpose of attracting people and keeping them here and to gain the trust that "YES! Doubts are indeed solved here!"

Given that the project already has volunteers who'd help with solutions of questions, diagrams, mathematical steps, clarifications, etc. etc., I do not think we should doubt this project until it actually is set up. Let's believe in being Bold.

Where will all your projects end up; how will people interested in such subjects find them?

This is a discussion forum. So, the discussions will be on questions. Direct exercise questions that we find in textbooks and examinations. What we need to realize is that these questions, once there volumes reach a certain level, can be directly used for the exercises section of the textbooks. And they'd be much better than what is being offered in the market right now.

People interested in these four subjects will easily find the forum. I plan to discuss some questions on the forum with my volunteers, edit the discussions and release a PDF on scribd.com That should get me some initial visitors. I guess we can handle a sustainable flow from there.

Well, according to me, the need of the hour is to help complete the project that is already functional but not usable and then move onto the other stages of development.

People come and invest a lot of their time on wikiversity which in the end makes no difference. The whole idea of this project is to remove the burden of creating content from one person and to entrust it to something that is human nature - doubts and queries.

I'm sure this'll help.

Also, I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out with completing the aesthetics and navigation. That'll be more productive for me. Honestly, I am looking for help. Can you help me out? Page for small research about similarities Wikipedia-OS

Hola! I was thinking about starting a small research collaborative project in Wikiversity where I can collect the help of some wikipedians and open source developers to validate a series of comparisons. I already have a wiki table which I would like to move and extend a little bit here for letting other people edit/comment it.

My main doubt about how to proceed is if it would be better to start a (new) research project page or if is better to create it in my user subpages. What do you think? (Any extra advice? :)

Are you using a real definition of "trolling" or are you just gaming the system and trying to bully me? Please provide me with links to my past edits that support your accusation of "trolling". I have always worked to support and develop Wikiversity and I've never abused a position of responsibility at Wikiversity. I'm using a standard definition of trolling - for reference, see m:What_is_a_troll? and w:Troll (Internet). The ways in which I think you troll are numerous - for example: repeatedly posting inflammatory and bad-faith comments in discussions about Wikiversity policy and governance, particularly in candidates for custodianship/bureaucratship; requesting that all actions that you dislike be backed up by policy (which would be fine, if you didn't seem to have any reservations about flaunting policy yourself, particularly civility); and simply refusing to have an open and honest discussion about your behaviour, or being frustratingly evasive during such discussions. We've been through this to death - I've given you countless examples of where I think your behaviour has been problematic (in the wake of your first block), and it seems to have just got worse since that time. John, I don't doubt that you want the best for Wikiversity, and it saddens me to say any of this. I wish we could have an open discussion without the posturing - but I've long since become fatigued by all the drama, and I have to say I find it hard to assume good faith on your part any more. Jimbo dun teached you good. I ask that you provide evidence of trolling and I request that you don't block me before I have a chance to respond to your charges, or is my asking for evidence too "frustratingly evasive" for you? I'm not going to stop complaining about people who violate policy and disrupt Wikiversity, even if the policy violators don't want to hear it. There is nothing uncivil about discussing abuses of power. Jimbo tried to force the banhammer culture on Wikiversity and there is a well-known way to deal with an occupying power. I hear that the godking lost his to banhammer. Are you going to step in and pick it up? If you want to play games I'll go to Wikiversity:Community Review/Problematic actions and document how a gang of sysops published false accusations about me and violated Wikiversity policy in order to terminate my Custodianship. SBJ called me up on the phone and told me why that was done and I'm perfectly happy to make sure that the entire Wikiversity community knows. I'd much rather work on Wikiversity:Privacy policy, which I was doing before Adambro blocked me. Why is it that two years ago when I called for Wikiversity:Privacy policy to be recognized as official policy, a month before Jimbo was gamed into coming to Wikiversity, all the great leaders of Wikiversity sat on their hands? I was told that any policy I worked on would be not become policy. Isn't that real mature? Is that where we are now, still? Everyone is too "fatigued" to collaborate and make a policy? I beg people to make a privacy policy in 2008, I beg in 2010, finally Ottava starts a new policy development drive and I get blocked for working to develop the privacy policy. Ottava asks me to start a community review aimed at finding ways past the log jam and I do that. Can you name the "game" I am playing? After all my hard work you come dancing in and announce that JWSchmidt is trolling and Moulton must go because of "drama"? But who made the bad block of Moulton against community consensus? Who violated Wikiversity policy and removed my custodianship? If you are too fatigued to collaborate then why not find a less challenging task than building a wiki community? Moulton and I am willing to devote our time to the task. Two years ago I was blocked for the absurd reason "until guidelines are agreed upon". Funny how the people who are ready and willing to develop guidelines get blocked and banned. Why is that? You come waltzing in and call me a troll. Very constructive. If you don't want to wave a banhammer then why did you violate Wikiversity policy and perform an emergency desysop on me when there was no emergency? What kind of game was that? I call it abuse of power. I know that a gang worked in secret off-wiki to engineer removal of my Custodianship and to block me. Wikiversity is a community for scholarly learners, not a place where a few people get together and decide who to eliminate.
