Wikisource is a Wikimedia project created for the purpose of amassing a library of free texts. It first began in 2003, and branched into multilingual subdivisions by 2005. Novels, books, essays, historical documents, poems, letters, speeches and documents are all included, so long as they are not encompassed by copyright or are under the GNU Free Documentation License. The English Wikisource is the largest Wikisource to date, with around 114,000 texts as of September 9, 2008.

Name and Slogan
