The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Montrose as a town in 1929.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref>

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of Template:Convert, all land.

Montrose is US Route 80 at the junction of State Highway 278 and is north of Interstate 16.
