Traditionally the Chinese people follow the rules of middle way, which means not be extreme in any kind of activities.
Hey, I'm using Safari and there is a problem with the layout of the page. The "Help" section overlaps with the footer of the page where we see the wiki sister projects. That's probably a css error (something like a "clear:both" missing somewhere). If someone has the permission to fix this, please do so. Thanks!

I just want to congratulate the Main Page Workgroup on the excellent results of the Main Page 2.0 project.  FInally, we have a front end worth the effort and intent that we all have put into this org.  I especially like the Project of the Day section.  I believe that is arguably the most important element that this org brings to the internet.  Anyway, thanks a bunch.
In my opinion, iOS is the best smart phone operating system because it offers elegance and simple lifestyle.

== Duplicated welcome ==
i've noticed that (at least) the icon links to other wikimedia projects at the bottom of the Wikiversity main page are not <nowiki>{{sec link auto|...}}</nowiki> type links, so someone using the https version of the projects gets directed back to the http version. This is a bug IMHO. <strike>The [[:w:Template:sec link auto]] and its subtemplates should be copied here - there should hopefully be some efficient sysadmin way of doing that instead of requiring editors to do it by hand - i hope... i seem to remember copying these by hand for Wikibooks...</strike> [[User:Boud|Boud]] 08:23, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

There are two "welcome to wikiversities", one on the header, the other in the introduction.  Could these two sections be combined into one, saving some space?  And the big purple picture, interesting as it is, may not be entirely useful, given that we already have a logo on the top, and educational pictures below?
== main page layout borked ==
--[[User:Hillgentleman|Hillgentleman]]|[[User talk:hillgentleman|Talk]] 22:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
The layout of the main page seems to have broken - there is extra whitespace at the top, the text of 'welcome to wikiversity' is wrapping, and the lower-right side of the there-column layout is overflowing onto the bottommost div. A recent change perhaps? viewed in chrome. <span style="padding:0 2px 0 2px;background-color:white;color:#bbb;">&ndash;[[User:Sj|SJ]][[User Talk:Sj|<font style="color:#f90;">+</font>]]</span> 21:06, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
: Thanks for your comments, Hillgentleman. On issue 1 (two welcomes), I know it is redundant and inefficient, but on the other hand, redundancy and inefficiency isn't necessarily bad in educational or introductory contexts. If we changed the word "welcome" as the title of the blue welcome box, what could we change it to (suggestion, please)? On issue 2 (the picture in the top right corner), it is true that it has little purpose other than setting mood, adding interest and various aesthetic layout things. I don't really like the image that much myself - I'm rather neutral about it. On the other hand, if we optimized in the way you suggest, we'd end up with a layout like [[Portal:Tertiary Education]], which looks less like the front page of a site and more like an internal page. A front page needs some extra whitespace, big titles and some real estate inefficiency, I think. But if you have an alternative, by all means let's have a look. --[[User:McCormack|McCormack]] 08:25, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

== Left Justify Text ==
: Looks fine here, but I do believe the layout is fragile and can easily break across web browsers and window widths. I think the main page should be redesigned. --[[User:Darklama|<span style="background:DarkSlateBlue;color:white;padding:2px;">&nbsp;dark</span>]][[User talk:Darklama|<span style="background:darkslategray;color:white;padding:2px;">lama&nbsp;</span>]] 12:50, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Large amounts of text (more than one line) should be left justified to make it easier to read.

Is it possible to add a link to a Youtube-movie? Which code should you use? [[User:Timboliu|Timboliu]] 11:50, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
:You may add a link to any external page, as long as it is not globally blacklisted. (If it's blacklisted, the link may be whitelisted here, any custodian can help with that.) As to the kind of Youtube links that display a video image, I don't know. To add a link to a page, you may copy the URL from your browser bar and place it. It will automatically display as a link, using the full URL. However, if you want it to display instead with some text, place it after an open bracket ("["), then add a space, the text you want, and then a close bracket. ("]"). For example,
:*<nowiki>http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page</nowiki>
:displays as http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page
:*<nowiki>[http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page]</nowiki>

This should be left justified, not centered. [[User:Robert Elliott|Robert Elliott]] 16:12, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
== Edit request from BrandonSkyHTFFan04, 13 March 2012 ==
: Hi Robert and thanks for your comments about the new design. I have played around with the alignment of everything on the POTD boxes quite a lot, and I also have versions where everything is left-aligned and text wrapped. I eventually decided that if ''most'' things were centered (which looks better), then they ''all'' had to be centered, as mixing left alignments with centering looked bad. If you like, I can show you a few examples so that you can see what I mean. --[[User:McCormack|McCormack]] 08:17, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

The WV main page currently features an image portraying the expansion of the universe. It does not state that this expansion is merely theoretic and makes the reader believe it is a very well proven evidence with a certain explanation. It should state that the expansion and the singular point in which the universe allegedly was are all theoretical. [[User:EugenSpierer|EugenSpierer]] 07:45, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Could you also state whether your comment is offered from a physicist's or a creationist's point of view (disclosure)? Thank you. --[[User:McCormack|McCormack]] 08:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
:: -Creationist point of view. Though I am merely pointing out a biased text, not stating an opinion. [[User:EugenSpierer|EugenSpierer]] 08:18, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
::: Thanks for the disclosure! I'm not really an expert in this field, although I was the guilty party who wrote the blurb (rather fast). I'll ask [[User:Mu301]] about this one. --[[User:McCormack|McCormack]] 08:27, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
::: I've thought about this a little more. The pictures we show include other "disputed" events and "theories", such as the shoes of holocaust victims, climate change and the moon landing - but many more than this. On the whole I do not want to fill our main page with surrenders to a series of "it's just a theory" claims. What we can do instead is add a "discuss this picture" link at the bottom of the box (as we already do with the quote-of-the-day) where people can then voice their opinions at much greater length. --[[User:McCormack|McCormack]] 08:48, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
:::: The WP page discussing the Big Bang theory states that it is only a model by which the universe can be interpreted. However, the Holocaust page does not use such terms and relates to the holocaust as a certain historical genocide. These articles relate to events that are very different in public acceptance - one is highly accepted (the holocaust - even though it has its opponents) and the other has been disputed ever since its conception (the Big Bang theory). Presenting the picture with that blurb may affect any unknowing visitors to the site, and make them certain that the Big Bang is an undisputed historical event. [[User:EugenSpierer|EugenSpierer]] 09:44, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
:::::A discussion link has now been added to all 100 picture pages. I'm sure this discussion can be continued there. --[[User:McCormack|McCormack]] 10:38, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I am Aries Eroles. I am a seafarer by profession. I noticed that there is no school for Maritime studies. Would I add a new page of it? Or is it included in other schools?
A subtle change that may tweak things in a desirable manner may be to make all the categories in the "Explore Wikiversity" category tree be closed by default. I was just playing around and I did this and it seemed to make the other main category headings stand out substantially more. This could be due to the way I personally perceive things or this may be a common perception among us. Perhaps try it... --[[User:Remi|Remi]] 23:36, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

:I guess we could add a box like e.g. at [[Portal:History]] (see: "Create a new history page") where then users could input the title of the [[learning resource]] they want. If it exists, it gets opened to edit. If it doesn't exist a new page is started - filled with some predefined content so the user can add her wished content for the learning resource.

:A new learning resource can also be created when using the search box on the main page (below the WV icon), when the new user searches and then when she sees "''There is no page titled "does this exist". If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using [[WP:Alternative outlets|one of the many websites]] that allow this instead.
If you ''do'' intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a [[WP:ADMIN|Wikipedia administrator]] that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

*Add the text <!-- Copy the text as it appears on your page, not as it appears in this edit area. Do not include "tlx or the first | character". -->{{tlx|unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on [[Special:MyTalk|your user talk page]].
*Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See [[Special:Listusers]] to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our [[WP:U|username policy]].
*Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
**Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
**Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

This page should be talk about Main Page. The Main page learning project was one-purpose action and is now not suitable for general HP talk. Lets move this to Colloquium and make it about HP as it is elsewhere (e.g. Wikipedia).--[[User:Kozuch|Kozuch]] 19:29, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikiversity in korean

[edit]

Can you please add the korean wikiversity to "In other languages". It was already approved.

The main page learning project was launched after the redesign of the main page in December 2007. The main page learning project has as its goal "the promotion of responsible involvement of the Wikiversity community in an efficient, productive, open and inclusive maintenance of the Wikiversity main page as a flagship of the activity and values of the Wikiversity community". If you would like to get involved in the design of the main page, this is where to go.

If you have general comments about the main page, but you don't especially want to get involved in the main page project, then you can also leave comments on the talk page for the main page learning project.

If you wish to post something below, go ahead. It's a talk page. But you are more likely to get a response by going to the Colloquium, which is where the main talking at Wikiversity goes on! See you there.

News or no news?

[edit]

If there isn't a steady stream of news, that section might be better off away from the main page. And some other sort of content rotation would be welcome. Sj 05:18, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Page layout problem (Safari for mac)

[edit]

Hey, I'm using Safari and there is a problem with the layout of the page. The "Help" section overlaps with the footer of the page where we see the wiki sister projects. That's probably a css error (something like a "clear:both" missing somewhere). If someone has the permission to fix this, please do so. Thanks!

I tested the page on firefox for mac and it loads correctly. Leadtimpani 15:25, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Can you add arab language of Wikiuniversity in (In other languages) ? Greetings. -- Faycal.09 (talk) 08:46, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

This is the arab language version (wikiversity - الصفحة الرئيسية). Greetings. -- Faycal.09 (talk) 08:34, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Nice idea, that beta project is getting pretty good. I don't see a reason not to link to it. SJ+ 21:07, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
I've added it, now that arab wikiversity has its own site. -- darklama  17:54, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Operation system for phones. Wikiversity Building Tools: Smart phones/Touch screens--Gaon Abhinava 04:08, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit]

In my opinion, iOS is the best smart phone operating system because it offers elegance and simple lifestyle.

Use the Tools, Learn anywhere as long as you have a phone, grow your mind.... and help build Wikiversity.--Gaon Abhinava 04:08, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit]

i've noticed that (at least) the icon links to other wikimedia projects at the bottom of the Wikiversity main page are not {{sec link auto|...}} type links, so someone using the https version of the projects gets directed back to the http version. This is a bug IMHO. The w:Template:sec link auto and its subtemplates should be copied here - there should hopefully be some efficient sysadmin way of doing that instead of requiring editors to do it by hand - i hope... i seem to remember copying these by hand for Wikibooks... Boud 08:23, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

It seems to be me who already did copy the template and its dependencies here :P. E.g. Template:Sec link auto links to the Wikipedia Minkowski space article. What is missing is to actually use these... Boud 18:57, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

main page layout borked

[edit]

The layout of the main page seems to have broken - there is extra whitespace at the top, the text of 'welcome to wikiversity' is wrapping, and the lower-right side of the there-column layout is overflowing onto the bottommost div. A recent change perhaps? viewed in chrome. SJ+ 21:06, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Looks fine here, but I do believe the layout is fragile and can easily break across web browsers and window widths. I think the main page should be redesigned. -- darklama  12:50, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Youtube

[edit]

Is it possible to add a link to a Youtube-movie? Which code should you use? Timboliu 11:50, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

You may add a link to any external page, as long as it is not globally blacklisted. ("]"). For example,
  • http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page
displays as http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page
  • [http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page]
displays as [1]
  • [http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page Our Main Page]
displays as Our Main Page

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know how to add a video image? Timboliu (talk) 19:56, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion for additional school

Blocked

[edit]
File:Stop x nuvola.svg
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text Template:Tlx on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text Template:Tlx below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:24, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
