The population was 1,377 at the 2020 census. ==History== Wymore was platted in 1881 as a railroad town, on land donated by Sam Wymore. The "Welsh Capitol of the Great Plains," Wymore became home to generations of immigrants from Wales, who continued their culture in day-to-day life, founding a Welsh-language church, school and cemetery, as well as preserving the Welsh traditions of poetry, dance, and intricate music in minor. During the early 20th century, Wymore boasted an electric tram. However, by the 1980s the town's population had shrunk and the railroads were used less. The train depot was burned down as part of a firefighting training exercise. In 2000, the Wymore Welsh Heritage Project was founded to preserve the legacy of these early settlers. It has since expanded to include a museum, an archive of genealogical records, and one of the largest Welsh-language libraries in North America. Wymore is home to Southern High School, a school that serves students from Barneston, Holmesville, Blue Springs, Wymore, and Liberty. The Raiders, competing in NSAA Class C-2, have won 2 state championships, both in wrestling (1974 and 1980). The Wymore Arbor State baseball ballfield has one of the few covered, behind-the-plate bleachers in the state. Wymore is also the burial place of author and anthropologist R. Clark Mallam, whose book, Indian Creek Memories; A Sense of Place is set in and around the town. ==Geography== According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.90 sqmi, of which 1.87 sqmi is land and 0.03 sqmi is water. ===Climate=== {{Weather box | width = 70% | single line = yes | location = Wymore, Nebraska (1991-2020 normals) | precipitation colour = green | unit precipitation days = 0.01 in | precip days colour = | Jan precipitation inch =0.80 | Feb precipitation inch =0.97 | Mar precipitation inch =1.82 | Apr precipitation inch =3.11 | May precipitation inch =4.70 | Jun precipitation inch =4.55 | Jul precipitation inch =3.85 | Aug precipitation inch =3.15 | Sep precipitation inch =3.21 | Oct precipitation inch =2.31 | Nov precipitation inch =1.28 | Dec precipitation inch =1.01 | year precipitation inch = | Jan precipitation days =4 | Feb precipitation days =3.7 | Mar precipitation days =6.4 | Apr precipitation days =8.4 | May precipitation days =9.2 | Jun precipitation days =7.9 | Jul precipitation days =8.5 | Aug precipitation days =6.9 | Sep precipitation days =6.2 | Oct precipitation days =6.4 | Nov precipitation days =5.3 | Dec precipitation days =4.9 | year precipitation days = | Jan snow inch =6.6 | Feb snow inch =3.5 | Mar snow inch =2.1 | Apr snow inch =0.4 | May snow inch =0.0 | Jun snow inch =0.0 | Jul snow inch =0.0 | Aug snow inch =0.0 | Sep snow inch =0.0 | Oct snow inch =0.2 | Nov snow inch =1.6 | Dec snow inch =5.3 | year snow inch = | unit snow days =0.01 in | Jan snow days =3 | Feb snow days =1.8 | Mar snow days =1.1 | Apr snow days =0.1 | May snow days =0 | Jun snow days =0 | Jul snow days =0 | Aug snow days =0 | Sep snow days =0 | Oct snow days =0.1 | Nov snow days =0.6 | Dec snow days =2.5 | year snow days = | source = NOAA<ref>{{Cite web |url=https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/services/data/v1?dataset=normals-monthly-1991-2020&stations=USC00259475&format=pdf&dataTypes=MLY-TMAX-NORMAL,MLY-TMIN-NORMAL,MLY-TAVG-NORMAL,MLY-PRCP-NORMAL,MLY-SNOW-NORMAL |title=Station: WYMORE, NE US USC00259475 |access-date=September 13, 2024 |website=Summary of Monthly Normals 1991-2020 |publisher=National Centers for Environmental Information |pages=1, 2 |format=PDF |quote=Elev: 1255 ft.
