==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the township has a total area of {{convert|36.3|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|36.2|sqmi}} is land and {{convert|0.1|sqmi}}, or 0.39%, is water.

[[Interstate 96|I-96]] passes through the southern part of the township with an exit about one mile east of Marne at junction with [[M-11 (Michigan highway)|M-11]], another at Marne, and another at the eastern edge of Coopersville.

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 3,286 people, 1,037 households, and 826 families residing in the township.  The population density was {{convert|90.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 1,082 housing units at an average density of {{convert|29.9|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the township was 95.53% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.27% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.61% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.15% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 2.59% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.85% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 4.29% of the population.

There were 1,037 households, out of which 38.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.3% were non-families. 17.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.98 and the average family size was 3.38.

In the township the population was spread out, with 29.3% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 99.0 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.0 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $51,023, and the median income for a family was $56,389. Males had a median income of $39,360 versus $24,527 for females.
