As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 833 people, 328 households, and 211 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|644.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 356 housing units at an average density of {{convert|275.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 51.02% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 47.78% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.48% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.60% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.12% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.96% of the population.

There were 328 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 22.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. Woodland is in the first congressional district of North Carolina, and since 2004 has been represented in Congress by [[G. K.
