==History==
Winfield was established on a {{convert|400|acre|adj=on}} tract of land owned by Charles Brown. He established a [[ferry]] across the river in 1818. The first meeting of the county court was held at the home of Talleyrand P. Brown, in Winfield, on May 22, 1848. The [[population density]] was {{convert|954.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 967 housing units at an average density of {{convert|401.2|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the town was 95.2% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.2% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.3% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.7% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.7% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.8% from two or more races. The racial makeup of the town was 99.19% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.22% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.27% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.22% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 0.11% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.43% of the population.

There were 736 households, out of which 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
