Whitaker has two land borders, including [[Munhall, Pennsylvania|Munhall]] to the northwest and [[West Mifflin, Pennsylvania|West Mifflin]] to the south and east. There were 560 households, 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 28.0% of households were made up of individuals, and 12.1% were one person aged 65 or older. The age distribution was 23.4% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% 65 or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.

The median household income was $34,239 and the median family income was $39,250. Males had a median income of $29,152 versus $23,409 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,910.
