== History ==
The area was first settled around 1816. The town of West Almond was created in 1835 from parts of the towns of [[Almond, New York|Almond]], [[Alfred, New York|Alfred]], and [[Angelica, New York|Angelica]].

The [[West Almond Churches]] were listed on the [[National Register of Historic Places]] in 1985.<ref name="nris">{{NRISref|2009a}}</ref>

The Southern Tier Expressway ([[Interstate 86 (east)|Interstate 86]] and [[New York State Route 17]]) passes through the central part of the town.

The population density was {{convert|9.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 313 housing units at an average density of {{convert|8.7|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the town was 97.73% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.42% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.28% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 0.57% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.42% of the population.

There were 130 households, out of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 29.7% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 117.9 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $43,125, and the median income for a family was $38,750. Males had a median income of $31,364 versus $22,188 for females. About 5.4% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 9.5% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.
