==Geography==
Wellsville is in northwestern Montgomery County, along [[Missouri Route 19]]. It is {{convert|8|mi|0}} northwest of [[Montgomery City, Missouri|Montgomery City]], the [[county seat]], and {{convert|22|mi}} southeast of the city of [[Mexico, Missouri|Mexico]].

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], Wellsville has a total area of {{convert|1.54|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, of which {{convert|0.002|sqmi|3}}, or 0.13%, are water.<ref name ="CenPopGazetteer2023"/> The city sits on high ground which drains east to White Oak Creek and northwest to Little Coon Creek, both part of the [[Cuivre River]] watershed flowing east to the [[Mississippi River]]; and southwest to Coal Branch, part of the [[Loutre River (Missouri River)|Loutre River]] watershed leading south to the [[Missouri River|Missouri]].

The racial makeup of the city was 95.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.8% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.5% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.1% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.2% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 0.8% from two or more races.
