==History==
Settlement likely began after the construction of the [[Kansas City Southern Railway]] through the area in 1898. This caused people to move from their communities on nearby [[Caddo Lake]] to be closer to the railroad station. ==Geography==
Vivian is in northwestern Caddo Parish. [[Louisiana Highway 1]] passes through the center of the town, leading north {{convert|11|mi}} to the [[Texas]] border at the northwest corner of Louisiana, and south {{convert|30|mi}} to [[Shreveport, Louisiana|Shreveport]]. [[Louisiana Highway 2|LA 2]] leads east {{convert|7|mi|0}} to [[U.S. Route 71]] in [[Hosston, Louisiana|Hosston]].

As of the [[2020 United States census]], there were 3,073 people, 1,395 households, and 898 families residing in the town. As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=January 31, 2008|title=U.S. Census website}}</ref> of 2000, there were 4,031 people, 1,569 households, and 1,019 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|782.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,812 housing units at an average density of {{convert|351.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.

In 2000, the racial makeup of the town was 63.90% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 34.19% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.52% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.35% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.02% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.02% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.72% of the population. By 2020, the racial makeup was 50.15% non-Hispanic white, 41.91% African American, 0.91% Asian, 4.62% multiracial, and 1.95% Hispanic or Latino of any race.<ref name=":0" />

There were 1,569 households, out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.2% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 19.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families. 31.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.16.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 29.9% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 81.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.9 males.

At the 2000 census, the median income for a household in the town was $23,800, and the median income for a family was $29,867. Males had a median income of $26,844 versus $17,500 for females.
