== History ==
The town of Venice was formed from part of the town of [[Scipio, New York|Scipio]] in 1823.

==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|106.9|km2|disp=flip}}, of which {{convert|106.4|km2|disp=flip}} is land and {{convert|0.5|km2|disp=flip}}, or 0.48%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

A small part of [[Owasco Lake]] borders the northeastern part of Venice.

[[New York State Route 34]], [[New York State Route 34B]], and [[New York State Route 38]] are north–south highways in Venice.

The population density was {{convert|31.3|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 535 housing units at an average density of {{convert|13.0|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the town was 97.59% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.23% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.47% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.78% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.93% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.56% of the population.

There were 465 households, out of which 36.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.3% were non-families. 20.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 29.2% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.6 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $41,184, and the median income for a family was $44,375. Males had a median income of $28,967 versus $21,908 for females.
