Although the town incorporated in 1921, it was also listed as being incorporated on the 1890 U.S. Census. This town is part of the [[Lookout Mountain]] region. At the [[2020 United States census|2020 census]], the population was 577.

The racial makeup of the town was 92.47% [[Race (United States Census)|White]], 2.29% [[Race (United States Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.65% [[Race (United States Census)|Native American]], 0.16% [[Race (United States Census)|Asian]], 0.16% [[Race (United States Census)|Pacific Islander]], and 4.26% from two or more races. 2.29% of the population were [[Race (United States Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Race (United States Census)|Latino]] of any race.

There were 244 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 14.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
