In the [[1950 U.S. Census]], Unionville was part of the census-defined Unionville-[[Phillipsburg, Georgia|Phillipsburg]] unincorporated place with population of 2,770.<ref name=1950CensusGA/> In the [[1960 U.S. Census]], the two communities were separated with Unionville having a population of 1,607<ref name=1980CensusGA/> and then designated a [[census designated place]] in 1980.<ref name=1980CensusGA/>

At the 2000 [[census]],<ref name="GR2" /> there were 2,074 people, 750 households and 521 families residing in the CDP. The population density was {{convert|2,766.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 859 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,145.9|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 1.45% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 96.96% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.05% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.05% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.68% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.82% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.16% of the population.
