Trego is located at the junction of [[U.S. Highway 53]] and [[U.S. Highway 63]], at {{convert|6|miles}} north-northeast of [[Spooner, Wisconsin|Spooner]]. Trego has a [[post office]] with [[ZIP code]] 54888.

==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|36.8|sqmi}}, of which 35.9&nbsp;square miles (93.1&nbsp;km{{sup|2}}) is land and 0.8&nbsp;square miles (2.2&nbsp;km{{sup|2}}) (2.28%) is water.

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 885 people, 347 households, and 242 families residing in the town. The [[population density]] was 24.6 people per square mile (9.5/km{{sup|2}}). There were 528 housing units at an average density of 14.7 per square mile (5.7/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup of the town was 96.95% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.11% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.47% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.23% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.11% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], and 1.13% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] people of any race were 0.23% of the population.

There were 347 households, out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 4.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% were non-families. 23.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55, and the average family size was 3.02.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.1% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
