The racial makeup of Tipton was 1,535 (60.4%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 3 (0.1%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 15 (0.6%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 9 (0.4%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0 (0.0%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 924 (36.3%) [[Race (United States Census)|Portuguese and other races]], and 57 (2.2%) from two or more races. The average household size was 4.17.  There were 525 [[family (U.S. Census)|families]] (86.1% of all households); the average family size was 4.45.

The population age distribution is 1,036 people (40.7%) under the age of 18, 276 people (10.9%) aged 18 to 24, 745 people (29.3%) aged 25 to 44, 360 people (14.2%) aged 45 to 64, and 126 people (5.0%) who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 24.0 years. For every 100 females, there were 107.6 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 111.7 males.

The population density was {{convert|1,765.4|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 488 housing units at an average density of {{convert|481.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the CDP was 28.99% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.17% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.56% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.45% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 62.51% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 7.32% from two or more races. == History ==

When construction of the [[Southern Pacific Railroad]] halted temporarily in 1872, a small community started to form at the end of the railroad. The residents named their community "Tip Town", signifying that is was at the end of the railroad.
