The population was 6,270 at the [[2020 United States census|2020 census]].<ref name="Census 2020"/> It is a part of the [[Mobile metropolitan area]]. ==Geography==
Theodore is located in southern Mobile County at {{coord|30.550690|-88.180878|type:city_region:US|format=dms|display=inline}}.<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> It is bordered to the northeast by the city of [[Mobile, Alabama|Mobile]] (the original center of Theodore is now within the Mobile city limits) and to the northwest by [[Tillmans Corner, Alabama|Tillmans Corner]]. [[Interstate 10]] forms the border between Theodore and Tillmans Corner, with access from Exit 13 (Theodore Dawes Road). I-10 leads northeast {{convert|14|mi}} to downtown Mobile and west {{Convert|27|mi}} to the [[Pascagoula, Mississippi]], area.

Theodore first appeared on the 1890 U.S. Census as a village. It did not appear again on the census until 1980 when it was designated a CDP (census-designated place).

The population density was {{convert|571.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 2,697 housing units at an average density of {{convert|226.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 71.11% [[Race (United States Census)|White]], 25.58% [[Race (United States Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.62% [[Race (United States Census)|Native American]], 1.29% [[Race (United States Census)|Asian]], 0.41% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.00% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population were [[Race (United States Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Race (United States Census)|Latino]] of any race.

There were 2,483 households, out of which 38.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 19.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% were non-families. 19.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
