It sits in the northern portion of Wyoming's grassy [[Star Valley (Wyoming)|Star Valley]], close to the [[Salt River (Wyoming)|Salt River]]. Thayne is surrounded by green grassland and ranches, with forested mountains at the valley's edge.

The [[population density]] was {{convert|263.3|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 171 housing units at an average density of {{convert|123.0|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the town was 91.5% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.1% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 6.0% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.4% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 9.3% of the population.

There were 144 households, of which 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.5% were non-families. 31.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.22.

The median age in the town was 35.6 years. 27.6% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.6% were from 25 to 44; 28.7% were from 45 to 64; and 10.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 53.0% male and 47.0% female.
