==History==
Talking Rock had its start in the early 1880s when the railroad was extended to that point.<ref>{{cite web | url=https://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/counties-cities-neighborhoods/talking-rock | title=Talking Rock | publisher=New Georgia Encyclopedia | accessdate=June 21, 2019}}</ref> The community takes its name from nearby [[Talking Rock Creek]]. [[Georgia State Route 136]] is the main route through the town, and leads east 30&nbsp;mi (48&nbsp;km) to [[Georgia State Route 9]] north of [[Dawsonville, Georgia|Dawsonville]], and west 31&nbsp;mi (50&nbsp;km) to [[Resaca, Georgia|Resaca]] along [[Interstate 75]]. Georgia State Routes [[Georgia State Route 5|5]] and [[Georgia State Route 515|515]] (Zell Miller Mountain Parkway) pass to the west of the city as a four-lane highway, leading north 15&nbsp;mi (24&nbsp;km) to [[Ellijay, Georgia|Ellijay]] and southeast 6&nbsp;mi (10&nbsp;km) to [[Jasper, Georgia|Jasper]], the Pickens County seat. [[Atlanta]] is 66&nbsp;mi (106&nbsp;km) south via GA-5/515 to [[Interstate 575 (Georgia)|Interstate 575]] and Interstate 75.
