==History==
The village was platted in the 1840s by Thomas Stevens, who was a prominent banker from [[Niles, Michigan]], and owned a large tract of land in the area.  A.D. The racial makeup of the village was 94.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.1% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.0% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.2% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.1% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.6% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 0.4% from two or more races. The racial makeup of the village was 96.22% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.26% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.25% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.76% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.34% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.18% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.76% of the population (also including Paco).

There were 522 households, out of which 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.87.

In the village, the population was spread out, with 22.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.7 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $42,569, and the median income for a family was $54,000. Males had a median income of $37,125 versus $29,125 for females.
