'''Startex''' is a [[census-designated place]] (CDP) in [[Spartanburg County, South Carolina|Spartanburg County]], [[South Carolina]], United States. As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 988 people, 391 households, and 265 families residing in the CDP. The population density was {{convert|516.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 443 housing units at an average density of {{convert|231.4|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 87.55% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 11.54% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.40% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.51% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]]. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.13% of the population.

There were 391 households, out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.12.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $30,417, and the median income for a family was $38,036. Males had a median income of $24,821 versus $22,143 for females.
