==History==
Springport was originally developed by a man named John Oyer, who arrived in late 1836 from Cayuga County, New York. Oyer helped organized the township's government. He built the first store in Springport, and erected several brick stores, as well as a hotel and a mill. For many years the community was known as "Oyer’s Corner" before the name was changed to Springport. Springport was the name of a town in Cayuga County, New York. The racial makeup of the village was 96.1% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.1% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.5% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.4% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.6% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 2.3% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.9% of the population.

There were 293 households, of which 39.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 20.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 29.4% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. [[Springport Motor Speedway]] is a racing facility constructed in 1989 and is home to short track racing. It has a Bandeloro class for up and coming racers.
