It is situated along the [[Schuylkill River]], which divides Chester and [[Montgomery County, Pennsylvania|Montgomery]] counties.  Directly across the river is the borough of [[Royersford, Pennsylvania|Royersford]].

At the 2010 census, the borough was 89.6% non-Hispanic White, 3.6% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.4% Asian, and 2.6% were two or more races. 3.4% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry [https://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/census/profile/PA].

The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States Census#2000 census|racial makeup]] of the borough was 95.25% White, 1.94% African American, 0.51% Native American, 1.03% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. There were 1,412 households, 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.8% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.8% were non-families. 33.9% of households were made up of individuals, and 8.9% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 3.03.
