==History==

==Geography==
Southport is located in southern Marion County. It is bordered to the north by the town of [[Homecroft, Indiana|Homecroft]]. [[Downtown Indianapolis]] is {{convert|8|mi|0}} to the north.

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], Southport has a total area of {{convert|0.63|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, all land.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/> Little Buck Creek passes through the northern part of town, flowing generally west to the [[White River (Indiana)|White River]].

The [[population density]] was {{convert|2717.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 763 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1211.1|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 94.1% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.8% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.1% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.1% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.8% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.2% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 3.4% of the population.

The racial makeup of the city was 96.54% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.38% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.11% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.86% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.30% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.81% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.38% of the population.

Southport is in the [[Metropolitan School District of Perry Township]], whose Southport Elementary is within the city boundaries.
