'''Slaughter''' is a town in [[East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana|East Feliciana Parish]], [[Louisiana]], United States. The population was 997 at the [[2010 United States census|2010 U.S. census]], down from 1,011 at the [[2000 United States census|2000 U.S. census]]. ==History==
The area was originally called Belzara, which was named after the post office in the area.  The community was later called Burnsville, in honor of the land surveyor who cut the railroad right-of-way through the area.  The town's name is from an Illinois Central Railroad Depot for the farm of the Slaughter family. ==Geography==
Slaughter is located along the southern edge of East Feliciana Parish. The town is bordered on the south by the city of [[Zachary, Louisiana|Zachary]] in [[East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana|East Baton Rouge Parish]].

[[Louisiana Highway 19]] passes through Slaughter, leading north {{convert|15|mi}} to [[Wilson, Louisiana|Wilson]] and south {{convert|20|mi}} to [[Baton Rouge, Louisiana|Baton Rouge]]. [[Clinton, Louisiana|Clinton]], the East Feliciana Parish seat, is {{convert|14|mi}} to the northeast.

The racial makeup of the village was 94.56% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 3.56% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.99% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.10% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.40% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.40% from two or more races. [[East Feliciana Parish School Board]] serves Slaughter. Slaughter Elementary School and Slaughter Community Charter School are located in Slaughter.
