'''Silver Plume''' is a [[Colorado municipalities#Statutory town|Statutory Town]] located in [[Clear Creek County, Colorado|Clear Creek County]], [[Colorado]], United States. Silver Plume is a former [[silver]] [[mining]] camp along [[Clear Creek (Colorado)|Clear Creek]] in the [[Front Range]] of the [[Rocky Mountains]]. The federally designated [[Georgetown-Silver Plume Historic District]] comprises Silver Plume, the neighboring town of [[Georgetown, Colorado|Georgetown]], and the [[Georgetown Loop Railroad|Georgetown Loop Historic Mining & Railroad Park]] between the two towns.

==History==
The family of John Henry Bowman (1850–1900) came to the Silver Plume area in 1864. The Silver Plume, Colorado, post office opened on December 1, 1875,<ref name=CPO>{{cite book|title=Colorado Post Offices 1859–1989|first1=William H.|last1=Bauer|first2=James L.|last2=Ozment|first3=John H.|last3=Willard|date=1990|publisher=[[Colorado Railroad Museum|Colorado Railroad Historical Foundation]]|location=[[Golden, Colorado]]|isbn=0-918654-42-4}}</ref> and the Town of Silver Plume was incorporated on September 24, 1880.<ref name=MuniIncCO/> The spelling of the town's name was briefly changed to [[Silverplume, Colorado|Silverplume]], but was later changed back to the original Silver Plume.<ref name=CPO/> The town has a very rich history. That history can be viewed by the general public either at the George Rowe Museum, which is in the original school house of the town, or by walking the 7:30 Mine Trail, which gives the individual a grand view of the Silver Plume valley and the town nestled at its base.

The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 11.8% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 2.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 128.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 129.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $35,208, and the median income for a family was $41,667. Males had a median income of $33,750 versus $23,438 for females. ==Geography==
Silver Plume is located in the valley of [[Clear Creek (Colorado)|Clear Creek]]. [[Interstate 70 in Colorado|Interstate 70]] and [[U.S. Route 6 in Colorado|U.S. Route 6]] pass through the town, with access from Exit 226. It is {{convert|20|mi}} west across the [[Continental Divide of the Americas|Continental Divide]] to [[Silverthorne, Colorado|Silverthorne]] and {{convert|46|mi}} east to [[Denver]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town of Silver Plume has a total area of 0.2&nbsp;square miles (0.6&nbsp;km{{sup|2}}), all of it land.
