The racial makeup of the city was 97.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.4% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.6% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.8% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 0.6% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.4% of the population.

The racial makeup of the city was 95.44% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.83% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.69% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.14% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 2.90% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.52% of the population.

The median income for a household in the city was $37,794, and the median income for a family was $40,521. Males had a median income of $31,364 versus $22,083 for females. The community is served by [[Santa Fe Trail USD 434]] public school district, which includes [[Carbondale, Kansas|Carbondale]], [[Overbrook, Kansas|Overbrook]] and Scranton.
