==History==
Sappington was named for a family of pioneer settlers.<ref>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=RfAuAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA360 | title=How Missouri Counties, Towns and Streams Were Named | publisher=The State Historical Society of Missouri | author=Eaton, David Wolfe | year=1918 | pages=360}}</ref> After [[Daniel Boone]] settled in modern-day Missouri, he would often return to Kentucky to tell residents about the land available in Missouri. John and Jemima Sappington sent two sons and a son-in-law to explore what is now Sappington in 1804. They bought 1,920 acres (3 square miles) of land - more than the area of present-day Sappington. The following year, the rest of the Sappington family arrived in the area. The population density was {{convert|2,850.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 3,530 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,380.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the community was 96.53% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.64% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.11% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.83% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.12% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.77% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.03% of the population.

In 2010, there were 7,580 people, 3,520 households and 2,066 families living in the community. The population density was 2,915 people per square mile. There were 3,756 housing units. The racial makeup of the community was 93.6% White, 1.5% African American, 0.1% Native American, 2.7% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race made up 1.9% of the population.

There were 3,520 households, of which 18.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.1% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.3% were non-families. 37.6% of all households were made up individuals and 19.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.85.

19.7% of the population were under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 24.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47.2 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.63 males.

The school district [[Lindbergh Schools]] serves Sappington as well as the surrounding areas.
