Sanford is located in northeastern Conejos County in the [[San Luis Valley]] of southern Colorado. The town of [[La Jara, Colorado|La Jara]] is {{convert|3|mi|0}} to the west by [[Colorado State Highway 136|State Highway 136]].

The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.50.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 35.3% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $25,625, and the median income for a family was $30,469. Males had a median income of $25,268 versus $17,212 for females.
