As of the [[2020 United States census]], there were 4,922 people, 1,839 households, and 1,151 families residing in the city.

The population density was {{convert|389.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,453 housing units at an average density of {{convert|166.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 93.93% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 4.69% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.06% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.47% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.03% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.09% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.74% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.59% of the population.

There were 1,361 households, out of which 38.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 25.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the town the population was spread out, with 26.9% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 34.0% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $35,912, and the median income for a family was $44,018. Males had a median income of $33,333 versus $23,542 for females. About 8.5% of families and 12.7% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 13.7% of those under age 18 and 17.3% of those age 65 or over.
