'''Rupelmonde''' is a village in the municipality of [[Kruibeke]], in the [[Belgium|Belgian]] province of [[East Flanders]]. It is located on the banks of the river [[Schelde]] opposite the [[confluence]] with the [[eponym]]ous [[Rupel]], and is known for its [[sundial]]s as well as having what is probably Belgium's only [[tidemill]]. It is the birthplace of [[Gerardus Mercator]], (1512–1594) <ref>{{Cite EB1911|wstitle= Mercator, Gerardus |volume= 18 |last= Beazley |first= Charles Raymond |author-link= Charles Raymond Beazley | pages = 149&ndash;150 |short= 1 }}</ref> the [[Flanders|Flemish]] [[cartographer]], who was imprisoned for several months in the castle there, a remnant of which today serves as a museum.
