The population density was {{convert|819.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,268 housing units at an average density of {{convert|332.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States census|racial makeup]] of the township was 95.14% White, 3.64% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.10% Asian, and 1.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.19% of the population.

There were 1,213 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 23.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the township the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $37,284, and the median income for a family was $41,607. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $23,250 for females. About 8.2% of families and 8.4% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 9.4% of those under age 18 and 7.3% of those age 65 or over.
