The population was 312 at the 2020 census. It is part of the [[Union City, Tennessee|Union City]], TN–[[Kentucky|KY]] [[Union City micropolitan area|Micropolitan Statistical Area]]. Located just south of Union City, Rives was originally known as Troy Station. Settlers from South Carolina first came to the area in the 1820's and by the 1850's the town was flourishing because of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. In the town, the population was spread out, with 26.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males. The median income for a household in the town was $26,964, and the median income for a family was $30,313. Males had a median income of $31,500 versus $12,917 for females.
