According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|10.6|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|8.9|sqmi|km2}} is land and {{convert|1.6|sqmi|km2}} (15.42%) is water.

The city is located along the [[Coosa River]] just east of [[Pell City, Alabama|Pell City]] along [[Interstate 20 in Alabama|Interstate 20]], which runs west to east through the southern part of the city. Access to the city can be found from exit 162. Via I-20, [[Birmingham, Alabama|Birmingham]] is west 39&nbsp;mi (63&nbsp;km), and [[Atlanta]] is east 110&nbsp;mi (177&nbsp;km). [[U.S. Route 78 in Alabama|U.S. Route 78]] also runs through the city.

There were 793 housing units at an average density of {{convert|88.6|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.
