Its east boundary line abuts the west boundary line of the state of [[Missouri]] (across the [[Missouri River]]). Its south boundary line abuts the north boundary line of the state of [[Kansas]]. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.95. The county population contained 25.50% under the age of 18, 5.90% from 18 to 24, 23.80% from 25 to 44, 23.30% from 45 to 64, and 21.50% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.00 males. The median income for a household in the county was $29,884, and the median income for a family was $39,779. Males had a median income of $25,938 versus $18,775 for females.
