'''Remsenburg-Speonk''' is a [[census-designated place]] (CDP) located in the [[Political subdivisions of New York State#Town|Town]] of [[Southampton, New York|Southampton]], [[Suffolk County, New York|Suffolk County]], [[New York (state)|New York]], United States. It consists of the [[Political subdivisions of New York State#Hamlet|hamlets]] of [[Remsenburg, New York|Remsenburg]] and [[Speonk, New York|Speonk]]. ==History==
As early as 1712, meadows in Speonk were leased to cattle owners from Southampton. Most of the early residents came west from Southampton and [[Bridgehampton, New York|Bridgehampton]] in the 1740s, building farms and clearing the forests of wood. In the 1880s, duck farms thrived in Speonk, but few survived past the turn of the century. The name ''Speonk'' was inspired by a Native American word meaning "high place". An 1897 [[Long Island Rail Road]] catalog listed Speonk, noting that that name "certainly sounds like the call of a frog". Some residents pressed to change the name to "Remsenburg", after prominent resident Charles Remsen donated a new Presbyterian church. Today, both names remain in use, each covering different areas of the community.

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|accessdate=2008-01-31|title=U.S. Census website}}</ref> of 2000, there were 2,675 people, 960 households, and 697 families residing in the CDP. The population density was {{convert|450.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,401 housing units at an average density of {{convert|235.9|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.92% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.76% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.19% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.64% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.64% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.71% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.16% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 5.23% of the population.

There were 960 households, out of which 35.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 20.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 23.8% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $72,794, and the median income for a family was $87,315. Males had a median income of $57,292 versus $40,481 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the CDP was $35,110. About 2.3% of families and 4.9% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 2.6% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.
