The '''Town of Redfield''' was incorporated from part of the  [[Mexico (town), New York|Town of Mexico]] in 1800. The town is in the northeastern corner of the county.

As the town is located in the [[Lake-effect snow|lake effect]] [[snowbelt]], it is known for its frequent and heavy snowfalls, even more so than other towns in upstate New York. In February 2007, the town unofficially set a record when {{convert|141|in|cm}} of snow fell in 10 days.

==Geography==
The northern town line is the border of [[Jefferson County, New York|Jefferson County]] and the eastern town line is the border of [[Lewis County, New York|Lewis County]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|93.4|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|90.1|sqmi|km2}}  is land and {{convert|3.4|sqmi|km2}} (3.60%) is water.

[[Population density]] was 6.7 people per square mile (2.6/km<sup>2</sup>).  There were 537 housing units at an average density of {{convert|6.0|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 98.02% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.66% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.82% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.49% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.65% of the population.

There were 230 households, out of which 33.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 26.5% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $33,304, and the median income for a family was $39,792. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $22,386 for females.
