Putnam is located in northeastern Callahan County. [[Interstate 20 in Texas|Interstate 20]] passes through the town, leading west {{convert|12|mi}} to [[Baird, Texas|Baird]], the [[county seat]], and east 12 miles to [[Cisco, Texas|Cisco]].

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 88 people, 39 households, and 23 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|86.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 56 housing units at an average density of {{convert|55.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 96.59% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.14% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 2.27% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]]. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 3.41% of the population.

There were 39 households, out of which 17.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 2.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
