In the classification system of [[Rolf Dahlgren|Dahlgren]] the Primulales were in the [[superorder]] Primuliflorae (also called Primulanae). In the 1981 version of the [[Cronquist system]] it was an order placed in subclass [[Dilleniidae]] with the following [[wiktionary:circumscription|circumscription]]:
