The racial makeup of the county was 96.4% white, 0.5% Asian, 0.2% American Indian, 0.2% from other races, and 2.8% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 1.4% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 44.7% were [[Germans|German]], 18.6% were [[Norwegians|Norwegian]], 14.1% were [[Americans|American]], 11.8% were [[Irish people|Irish]], and 9.5% were [[English people|English]]. The median income for a household in the county was $34,896 and the median income for a family was $43,500. Males had a median income of $28,438 versus $21,964 for females.
