Czech [ʧɛk] (čeština [ˈʧɛʃ.cɪ.na]) is one of the [[w:West Slavic Languages|West Slavic languages]], along with [[w:Slovak|Slovak]] and [[w:Polish|Polish]]. It is spoken by most people in the Czech Republic and by Czechs all over the world (about 12 million native speakers in total). Czech is relatively close to Slovak. 

In fact, because the [[w:Czech Republic|Czech Republic]] (in red) and [[w:Slovakia|Slovakia]] (in blue) were united in a federation for most of the 20th century, citizens of either state are able to understand the other language. This is changing since the [[w:Dissolution of Czechoslovakia|velvet divorce]] between the two states.
