The department has remained an entirely volunteer service since its inception. The first fire apparatus were held in the barn of founding member Theodore Bates. In the 1960s the first fire station was built in the hamlet on County Road 16. To meet the needs of residents further away a second fire station was built on Plymouth Reservoir.
