'''Pine Island''' is a city in [[Goodhue County, Minnesota|Goodhue]] and [[Olmsted County, Minnesota|Olmsted]] counties in the [[U.S. state]] of [[Minnesota]]. Most of Pine Island is in Goodhue County, but a small part extends into Olmsted County, making that portion part of the [[Rochester, MN MSA|Rochester metropolitan area]]. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,769.

The community has a strong [[agriculture|agricultural]] base, but has been transitioning over time into a [[Commuter town|bedroom community]] for nearby [[Rochester, Minnesota|Rochester]], which employs many local residents. Pine Island lies along the Middle Fork of the [[Zumbro River]]. As of 2000 the median income for a household in the city was $47,500, and the median income for a family was $59,792. Males had a median income of $32,788 versus $25,031 for females. The racial makeup of the city was 96.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.9% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.1% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.8% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.1% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.1% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.3% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.7% of the population.

There were 1,292 households, of which 36.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.4% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The median age in the city was 35.2 years. 27.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.9% were from 25 to 44; 25.3% were from 45 to 64; and 13.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.4% male and 51.6% female.
