Perry was laid out as a town in 1869, named for "one of the owners of the road at that time. Col. On January 4, 2024, a [[Perry High School shooting|school shooting]] occurred at [[Perry Community School District|Perry High School]] leaving an 11-year-old boy in sixth grade dead and seven other people injured.
